secret life exposed

Some people have been spying on me and I want to foil their attempts to know more about me than I do.

This is from the college years. We ran a marathon, and yes, a banana beat me. In my defense, I was fruited along the way. Di is standing on her tippy tippy toes, she is actually shorter than me.

Also when I was little I broke a glass turkey because I was doing the can-can on top of the piano bench. Mom wasn't very happy about that at all. Now you know EVERYTHING about me. Oh yeah, I don't like Jello.

Extra Bumaroo

Dear Dairy,

I forgot to mention, Jen is not coming to live in DC. Her job fell through due to something out of her control. So my parents get to live with the poop monster a little longer.

Pray for her to find something else, and for me to find an apt.

sighend jo.

Two of these things belong together, two of these things are kind of the same.

These are my shoes.

This is Monty.

Both remind people of Superman.

A Good and Encouraging experience

A year or so ago the AF academy went through a religious scandal. Non-Christian cadets claimed they were discriminated against due to religious intolerance. When I started my job, I knew there was tension when it came to discussing religion from the first day. At work, I feel my spiritual life is off limits to discussion until someone specifically asks. I'm open about my opinions, life choices, and values, but it seems that the word "Christian" has scandal attached. As a friend put it for me, faith seems to become a new category for the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. It's accepted, but I get teased, behind my back and to my face.

That may help explain why today was so cool for me. Today I went to meet and spend time with a the Deputy Chief of Chaplains of the AF, Chaplain General Richardson. I was at his house, unknowingly, for a church bible study Christmas party last weekend. Knowing I was a Lt he introduced himself to me as "Cecil". He showed me such kindness, asking me questions, sharing stories and I left so excited to have met him and excited to go visit him on my coming day off. I was excited because here was a man who's active duty AF job is ministry. I had associated in my AF experience, the AF as being faith-unfriendly. I was impressed by his modesty, I didn't know he was the Deputy Chief of Chaplains until right before I had left his house.

Today he introduced me to all the people on his staff and let me in on something, my senior leadership are all Christians.

Sista' Sista'

This is my sister Jen, she is moving here to live with me. Let me tell you about her.

Jen is 5'2", single and enjoys a good snorty laugh. Her interests include jigs, baby talk to her dogs, cleaning and shopping. She burns jello but claims to know how to cook.

By the time she was 12, Jennifer had already produced several long plays with casts of over 8 girls comprised of sisters and neighbors. She directed and starred in "Dogs Shall Be Dogs", A reconciliation story of some dogs wanted to party all day long. All it took were 2 songs and those pups were hooked on the good book.

Jen drove a sweet conversion van in high school, where she macked on Dudes. In the last 5 years, she has been collecting a fine assortment of shoes, finally satisfied she left Germany. (She also did a very little bit of work as an army capt, but not as much as her very important sister who is in the AF.)

Her greatest young creation was the construction of a swimming pool in the back of our Dads truck using tarps. The tires almost blew but it was so rad.

My sister calls me schmoopie,

She calls her dogs, who I will soon live with, "poop monsters". I hope that is also just a gibberish nick name.

Today felt like 3... in a good way

I've been really blessed lately with the people I've been able to meet. I've also found out that my leadership at work, are all Christians.

I've been really needing a day off work, and I was told that part of the award I won at work, includes a free day off. Tonight at a church Christmas party, I found out that the host is the Deputy Chief of Chaplans for the AF. I am going to go meet him on my day off next week and I can't express how excited I am to have met him.

I've also been really connecting with some people I've known but are now becoming my friends. I'm really excited about my life right now. It's good to know that even after a year my life continues to grow and change in DC. God's putting people and opportunities into my life at the right time.

I know that a lot of this won't make much sense. oh well.

Don't go to college, Kanye was right.

When I was in college I thought they were going to teach me everything I'd need to know for my job. I've almost been here 1 year and I’ve realized there are a few things they forgot to teach me.

Vocab:
-Words like "goblity gook" "boondoggle" and "busy" are used weekly here. I have no idea what they mean.
Etiquette:
-Learning how to kindly blow off the guy who wants to talk to you for an hour about his guns and dogs, when you are the most busy.
-How to make it seem like you are busy.
-Who to ask for more staples vs. knowing who will do your stapling for you.
-And how to transition a conversation about guns and dogs to regression models (or what ever work you are doing).
Appearance:
(since I wear a uniform this won't apply to everyone...) It may be much more comfortable to go to work in sweats and change at work, but then everyone you commute with regularly will think you are a janitor, potentially even the cute guy on the bus.
family:
-People with kids know where the "way back" to their car is, single people don't have a "way back".
-Men admit their kids art may not be so good and hang it anyway, but Moms always say it is beautiful (and mean it).

Look for more supplemental lessons next year.

If it's in a memo, it must be true.

Todays update to our boss who is in TX said,

Sir, I'm sorry to report that Chris and Jo have died.

Yesterday, an office email went out after our christmas party with pictures of everyone with their spouse, then one of Chris and I. The email caption read "some of the happy couples".

they either want us to date or die.

We paddled our rock up stream

slept on top of a cliff then hiked in our unmentionables and swam in a warm, clean, and clear lake.
